There is no safe level of lead, according to the World Health Organization, Centers for Disease Control and the American Academy of Pediatrics. Lead is a toxic heavy metal.
Lead is especially toxic to children and fetal development. It damages children's brains and nervous system, lowers IQ scores, slows their growth and development, harms muscle coordination, speech, language and causes behavior problems. And these impacts are lifelong.
Approximately 70% of airborne lead in the U.S. comes from piston-engine aircraft.

Synthetic turf contains toxic chemicals
Doctors, nurses, health professionals, university professors, and children's health organizations are deeply concerned about the toxic, cancer-causing chemicals, PAHs, benzene, PFAS “forever chemicals,” lead and heavy metals that have been found in the plastic blades of grass, backing, crumb rubber and other infill.Synthetic turf is dangerous to athletes. Synthetic turf fields are full of bacteria and must be regularly cleaned with chemicals. Turf burns from synthetic turf can become infected with bacteria like staph and MRSA which can be life threatening.
An EPA study found MRSA on 70% of fields tested.Synthetic turf increases injuries. According to an NFL Players Association (NFLPA) study, playing and practicing on synthetic turf increases the chance of a lower extremity injury with a 69% higher rate of non-contact foot/ankle injuries compared to grass. The NFLPA and the AFL-CIO have called for all NFL fields to be natural grass.

Sacred to Western Apache and other Indigenous peoples, Oak Flat is a stunning expanse of wildlands in the high desert of central Arizona. It lies on public lands within the oak-rich Tonto National Forest and is habitat for endangered species like ocelots and Arizona hedgehog cacti.
Right now a critical decision is pending in the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals to determine whether the Trump administration can move forward with transferring thousands of acres of the Tonto — including Oak Flat — to foreign mining giant Resolution Copper for a massive open-pit copper mine.

The chemical industry is lobbying hard to undermine protections that ban harmful chemicals, require health and safety data before chemicals can be used, and uphold the right of states to implement laws stronger than the federal government.
The Toxic Substances Control Act (TSCA) was updated in 2016 to reduce exposure to harmful chemicals linked to chronic diseases like cancer and liver failure. The law is working — that’s why the chemical lobby wants to weaken it and trade public health for profits.
Most pesticides contain PFAS and California farms farms spray an average of 2.5 million pounds of PFAS pesticides each year on crops that we eat!
Forever chemicals (PFAS) are toxic compounds that research clearly shows are linked to various diseases, including cancer, immune disorders, thyroid issues, kidney and liver conditions, and more.

The Trump administration wants to gut safeguards for millions of acres of U.S. wetlands and streams. A newly proposed rule would weaken the Clean Water Act by severely narrowing the scope of protected waters, letting billionaires and corporations dump pollution in more wetlands and streams than ever before.
From the vast Arctic mountain ranges and river valleys to the temperate rainforests of southeast Alaska's Tongass National Forest, the Trump Administration has made it a priority to strip protections from these these iconic and cherished places so that corporate polluters can increase drilling, logging, and mining while blocking access to the general public. Millions of acres of public lands and waters are at risk!
Corporations like Bayer's Monsanto are pressuring lawmakers to include language in the 2025 Farm Bill to OVERTURN all state, county, and city pesticide regulations.
This would threaten local laws that go further than the EPA's regulations for pesticide use – local laws designed to protect vulnerable populations such as farm workers and schoolchildren, as well as endangered pollinators like bees.
Despite the science linking dangerous pesticides like glyphosate and neonics to life-threatening health conditions like cancer, Bayer's Monsanto and other corporations are determined to throw out all state and local regulations, just to protect their profit margins.

Glufosinate exposure is associated with low-birth-weight babies.

Consumer Reports’ latest test results for lead in 36 ground cinnamon products and spice blends are troubling: in a third of the products tested, just a quarter-teaspoon had more lead than you should consume in an entire day.
Despite the health risks of lead – which include damage to the brain, reproductive problems, and developmental issues – there still is no national limit for lead and other risky heavy metals in most foods, including spices.
Tell the FDA to immediately adopt a national standard and protect us from these health risks.

Scientists have identified a large area of habitat in Arizona and New Mexico, 20 million acres (about 32,000 square miles) that could support more than 100 jaguars. We ask the USFW to reintroduce jaguars to the area and expand the cats' protected habitat.
