Synthetic turf contains toxic chemicals
Doctors, nurses, health professionals, university professors, and children's health organizations are deeply concerned about the toxic, cancer-causing chemicals, PAHs, benzene, PFAS “forever chemicals,” lead and heavy metals that have been found in the plastic blades of grass, backing, crumb rubber and other infill.Synthetic turf is dangerous to athletes. Synthetic turf fields are full of bacteria and must be regularly cleaned with chemicals. Turf burns from synthetic turf can become infected with bacteria like staph and MRSA which can be life threatening.
An EPA study found MRSA on 70% of fields tested.Synthetic turf increases injuries. According to an NFL Players Association (NFLPA) study, playing and practicing on synthetic turf increases the chance of a lower extremity injury with a 69% higher rate of non-contact foot/ankle injuries compared to grass. The NFLPA and the AFL-CIO have called for all NFL fields to be natural grass.

6 climate-killing liquefied natural gas (LNG) projects are awaiting permits from the Department of Energy (DOE), but President Biden can stop them!
H.R. 9495, the “Tax Penalties on American Hostages Act”, would give the US Treasury Secretary unchecked power to revoke a nonprofit’s tax-exempt status, by merely claiming, with no evidence or due process, that the organization is linked to terrorism.
It’s been dubbed the “Nonprofit Killer”. This would prevent the nonprofit (church, union, etc.) from raising or spending money. H.R.9495 would give Trump the ability to shutdown any nonprofit organization he wants.
The RECA (Radiation Exposure Compensation Act) needs to be included in the year-end budget bills.

The US Fish and Wildlife Service has proposed changes to reduce the use of pesticides on Refuge lands. These Refuges provide important habitat and stopovers for waterfowl.
Please tell the USFWS you support stopping pesticides on Refuges.
On August 27, 2024, President Joe Biden’s Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said U.S. farmers could grow a GMO wheat variety that’s genetically engineered to soak up glufosinate, a pesticide that is 5 times more toxic than glyphosate and has been banned in the European Union since 2013. Glufosinate exposure is associated with low-birth-weight babies.
The USDA didn’t conduct a scientific review or offer opportunity for public comments before announcing its decision!
Tell the US Fish and Wildlife Service you support their proposal to protect nearly 2 million acres of critical habitat for manatees under the Endangered Species Act. Manatees are dying at an alarming rate. Declining seagrass has led to almost 20% of the entire Florida population passing away in just two years. These gentle giants are starving to death!
Paraquat is a very toxic herbicide that is banned in over 68 countries.
Paraquat exposure can be fatal to humans, wildlife, and domestic animals, even in very small amounts., Exposure to paraquat is linked to Parkinson’s Disease, and paraquat poisoning can damage the lungs, kidneys, liver, and esophagus. There is no antidote to paraquat poisoning and one sip can be fatal.
The EPA classifies paraquat as a possible human carcinogen and is linked to various forms of cancer, including childhood leukemia and thyroid cancer.
The EPA Endocrine Disruptor Screening Program (EDSP) cannot be only limited to only humans and conventional pesticide active ingredients. The EDSP must use of all endocrine disruption research findings.
Ask your U.S. Representative and Senators to cosponsor S. 5084, the Safe School Meals Act, to set limits on heavy metals in school meals, ban glyphosate, paraquat, and organophosphate pesticide residues in school meals, and banning PFAS, phthalates, lead, and bisphenols in school meal packaging.
It also directs the FDA to reevaluate food additives with known carcinogenic, reproductive, or developmental health harms, such as artificial food dyes, and ban their use in school meals before the completion of analysis.
The Safe School Meals Act also increases the funding available for schools to purchase safe school meals and expands funding for the Organic Certification Cost-Share Program for organic farmers.
Congress is considering a bill to promote "advanced recycling," a.k.a. burning plastic, as a solution to plastic pollution. This is dangerous!
If this bill passes, it would mean plastics-burning facilities across the country that would be exempt from air pollution controls. It would protect the plastics industry rather than people, and it would harm our most precious and vulnerable population, our children!
Instead of using its innovative technologies to help slow down the climate crisis, Microsoft is instead choosing to help oil and gas producers boost their profits by providing them with personalized cloud computing resources and AI software tools.

Please ask your senators and representative to co-sponsor this bill to create permanent federal protections for bison, grizzly bears, and gray wolves and expand recovery efforts and coexistence measures to keep them safe. It will also increase existing Tribal management authorities over these species by creating oversight committees that work in unison with Indian Tribes to identify Tribal lands suitable for possible reintroduction efforts.
Chemical food dyes are linked to behavioral issues and attention disorders are in public school lunches and snacks. California just passed a landmark bill that would ban six synthetic food dyes from foods served at public schools in that state – now it’s time all U.S. kids have the same health protections.
Please tell the three corporations that provide most of our nation’s school lunches – Aramark, Sodexo and Chartwells – to remove harmful chemical dyes in food provided to schools. Every kid deserves the same shot at a healthier future!
Consumer Reports’ latest test results for lead in 36 ground cinnamon products and spice blends are troubling: in a third of the products tested, just a quarter-teaspoon had more lead than you should consume in an entire day.
Despite the health risks of lead – which include damage to the brain, reproductive problems, and developmental issues – there still is no national limit for lead and other risky heavy metals in most foods, including spices.
Tell the FDA to immediately adopt a national standard and protect us from these health risks.
Since the 1940s, our government exposed innocent people to radiation from nuclear activities. In the southwest, uranium workers breathed radioactive dust and unknowingly carried the poison home on their clothes to their families. Scientists have identified a large area of habitat in Arizona and New Mexico, 20 million acres (about 32,000 square miles) that could support more than 100 jaguars. We ask the USFW to reintroduce jaguars to the area and expand the cats' protected habitat.
Ask Congress, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the Dept. of the Interior to use Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funds to move our farms from fossil fuel-based pesticides and fertilizers to organic, regenerative agricultural that is safe and equitable. Action link.
All available conservation funds in the IRA like the Conservation Stewardship Program, agricultural programs, etc. must go to transform farming in the US away from toxic pesticides and fertilizers.
Moving farmers to organic, regenerative organic, and permaculture will help reduce dependence on fossil fuels, create healthy soils which holds more carbon, grow healthy food, protect all our health, maximize biological diversity and minimize harm to our environment.

US is the world's largest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG), 7 million tonnes in Dec 2021 alone.
LNG is fracked gas made into a liquid by being cooled to -260ºF and is very explosive. Leaks can can quickly become a toxic, explosive cloud. Processing LNG also makes toxic air pollution like benzene, mercury, ammonia and sulfuric acid.
The life cycle of fracked LNG (extraction to end use) makes it one of the dirtiest fuels on the planet.
